Pre- and Post-Operative Lymphatic Services For a Faster Recovery

Even when a surgery is elective, the body’s reaction is the same as if it experienced an injury. Post-operative swelling is natural as the body sends thousands of white blood cells, proteins, and other healing factors to the affected site to begin the recovery process. Swelling is the result of the increased movement of fluids, and most post-operative discomfort or pain is due to that swelling.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) can boost circulation and improve the efficiency of your lymphatic system. It can help your body speed up detoxification efforts, remove toxins, waste products, and surgical edema, and reduce post-operative swelling and pain. It is a powerful tool (or secret weapon!) to help you heal faster and enjoy your results.

Benefits of post-operative MLD:

  • Reduction of edema / swelling

  • Management of pain and discomfort

  • Reduction of bruising

  • Infection prevention

  • Reduction of scar tissue formation

  • Improvement of skin texture

  • Decreases recovery time

  • Supports relaxation / relieves stress

Post-operative manual lymphatic drainage can improve recovery for a wide variety of surgeries, including, but not limited to:

  • Facelift

  • Liposuction

  • Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

  • Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

  • Breast implant

  • Mastectomy / Breast Reconstruction

  • Gender reaffirming surgeries

  • and more!

It can be difficult to predict how much swelling a patient may deal with during recovery, but there are steps that can be taken to help the body prepare.

  • Plan for your recovery in advance – We recommend at least 2 MLD sessions prior to your surgery to help clear out any stagnant lymph, preparing you to go into your procedure with your body running at its best.

  • Schedule your post-op MLD sessions in advance – Every individual is unique in their healing process. Some people only require one or two recovery treatments while others end up needing 10 or more, depending on the extent of their procedure. Secure your recovery appointments in advance to reduce scheduling stress and anxiety, and help you minimize your down time!

In most cases MLD treatment after surgery can begin between 1-3 days after the procedure. If you have an upcoming or recent surgery, contact us and secure a spot in our schedule!
