Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery

Post-surgery MLD can help decrease recovery time so you can feel better faster and get back to the best of your life!

After an operation, your body experiences side effects as it begins to heal, such as swelling and pain. While normal, those side effects can be uncomfortable.

How can MLD help in the case of traumatic edema or orthopedic surgery?

  • Reduce swelling / edema

  • Reduce pain

  • Increase motion at the affected joint

  • Reduce recovery time

  • Increase function of the affected area

  • Decrease stress

  • Increase relaxation

Post-surgery MLD is an excellent way to help promote the healing process and is appropriate for almost any surgery or procedure. Some examples include:

  • Knee surgeries

  • Shoulder surgeries

  • Hip replacements

  • Cosmetic surgeries

  • Traumatic injury edema (eg swollen ankle)

  • Gender reaffirming surgeries

  • and more!

Post-surgical MLD may be performed as early as 3 days after an operation. After a surgery, fibrosis and seromas can develop in the trauma area, and scar tissue can become immobile within just a few days. Studies have shown that, in addition to conventional medical care, MLD in the early post-operative stages can improve joint mobility up to 6 weeks post-surgery.

While many massage spas and clinics offer MLD for health and wellness, they are often not trained in post-surgical MLD techniques. While they mean well, their lack of specialized training and limited knowledge of the lymphatic system may result in the utilization of techniques that oppose the long-studied, evidence based proven techniques of the Dr. Vodder system.

At Afflux Lymphatics, we utilize Dr. Vodder’s evidence-based techniques to get proven results for our clients to help them feel better and get back to their regular activities as quickly as possible. If you have an upcoming or recently completed surgery, contact us! We want to be your partner in healing.
